Friday Five

January 31, 2020

It’s officially the weekend! It has been such a long week. Time is such a weird thing these days. Some days and weeks seem super long, yet there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get things done -#thestruggleisreal! It’s been a long time since I have shared a Friday Five, so I thought I would round up a few random things that are worth sharing with you guys!

“Cheer” Docu-series

You have probably been hearing about “Cheer”, the new docu-series on Netflix. I just watched it (it’s only six episodes so it’s super easy to binge watch) and I loved it! I was a cheerleader growing up and through high school, so it definitely stirred up some nostalgia for me. Even if cheerleading was never your thing, I highly recommend watching it! The series is centered around a junior college cheerleading program and their journey to prepare for and compete at the nationals competition. It highlights the skill and athletic ability required to excel in the sport, as well as how physically demanding it is on the body. But beyond that, it does go deeper into the personal lives of the cheerleaders so you become truly invested in them and the team as a whole. It’s really moving! I may or may not have shed tears during the last episode. The biggest lesson to be learned from this series is that you should never use the bad things that happen to you in life as excuses for why you are not succeeding – if you are willing to work hard and stay positive, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.

Birdies

I have shared my love for Birdies shoes many times over the past few weeks, so I had to include them in this post (and no, this is not an ad!). Everyone I know that has now purchased a pair has reinforced the fact that they truly are the most comfortable shoes ever. I bought my first pair (the Heron style in black) prior to my trip to Europe. I wanted a good pair of flats that would be comfortable for lots of walking, and these were perfect! A month later, I bought a second pair which is the style/color in the photo above. Love love love them! They run true to size on me – I am usually always an 8, so that’s what I went with in both pair and they are the perfect fit. Some people say they sized up…I think it just depends on your foot!

Coffee Scrub

This is so random, but I have to share this coffee scrub hack. My esthetician recommends mixing a little coffee in with your daily cleansing routine to exfoliate your face. She says she has done it every day for years and her skin looks wonderful. It is more gentle than other exfoliants, not to mention natural. My face feels like a baby’s butt after I do it! I do it a few times a week in the morning – I wet my hands, dump about 1/2 a teaspoon of coffee into my hand, then squeeze my normal amount of cleanser into my hand, and mix it all together then scrub my face. I smell the coffee for a little while after doing it, but it eventually goes away. It’s definitely the cheapest face product I have ever used, and it’s effective so it’s a win all the way around!

Oyster Ring Dish

I love stumbling upon new Etsy shops, and I have a real gem to share with you! Bead Studio & Design is based in Hilton Head, SC, and they have so many unique trinkets and very pretty jewelry. I recently purchased this little ring dish made from an oyster and I keep it by my sink to hold my rings while I am washing dishes. I got the blue & white bird print, but they have lots of other prints/colorways available. I think their pieces make great gift ideas, too!

Blue Glasses

When we redid our kitchen, I had to clean out all of our cabinets which resulted in me donating several kitchenware items that I never used or just didn’t like anymore, so I decided I wanted to upgrade our glasses. Natalie over at the blog Designer Bags & Dirty Diapers shared these from Amazon, and I immediately purchased them. They are crystal, so the quality is fantastic for the price. They come in both high and low ball styles, as well as goblets. Highly recommend!

That’s all folks! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
