Crazy for Kimonos

July 27, 2018

Hi everyone!  I hope you all have had a great week.  It’s been a doozy for me work-wise, so I am glad that Friday is here!  You all seemed to really like the post that I shared last week with the tank dress that I styled three ways, so I am excited to share a similar post today, with this one being centered on a beautiful kimono that I purchased recently!

My husband and I had a date night at North Hills in Raleigh, and after dinner we walked by the cutest store called South Moon Under (they have several locations and they also have a website, so definitely check them out!).  They had this kimono on a mannequin in the window, and it drew me right in!  I have a couple of kimonos already, but they are shorter in length, so I wanted to add a longer one to my closet.  I love the colors in this one!  At first glance, you might think that a kimono like this is a very unique piece and you might not get much wear out of it, but I think you would be surprised at how you could make this work for several occasions!  If you have been following along on my Instagram for a while, you know I talk a lot about versatility.  I think everyone should have pieces in their wardrobe that could be styled several ways.  Be creative when you see a piece that you love – you’d be surprised the various ways you can put outfits together!

One Kimono Three Ways

Unfortunately I could not find this exact kimono online, but I found a couple of other similar options that I have linked below.  The Raleigh South Moon Under location still has the one I’m wearing here in stock, so you could always visit if you’re local, or call and order over the phone (919-645-9765)!

Look #1 – Chic Swimsuit Cover-up

I love, love, love the look of a kimono over a swimsuit.  It adds a little glam and is perfect for creating a chic summer outfit, whether you are at the pool, the beach, or a fancy resort!  I paired my kimono with this pretty green one piece from Target and it was a great match.  This swimsuit was under $30 and is such a flattering style.  I’ve linked it below!

Swimsuit | Tory Burch Sandals | Sunglasses

Look #2 – Casual with a Touch of Boho

This look goes to show how easy it is take a basic white tank and jean shorts to a whole other level!  I took these two basics, added the kimono, some fun wedges, and a straw hat to make for a fun and trendy bohemian look.  This would be a great outfit for an outdoor concert, festival, or a casual night out.  This would even make for a good travel outfit!  That may sound crazy, but I always like to wear something cute (but also comfortable) when I’m traveling, especially if I am going somewhere tropical.  The kimono also adds an extra layer for when the plane gets a little too cold!  My tank and jean shorts are both from Target, and I’ve linked them below (both pieces are around $20 TOTAL!).  My wedges are old, but I found that they were still available online so I’ve linked them as well!

Tank Top ($4!) | Jean Shorts | Wedges | Hat

Look #3 – Night Out

You can layer a kimono over a basic silk cami and white jeans, and then add heels and statement jewelry for a night out.  I went with a green cami that I had in my closet, but this is the type of piece that would work with so many other colors, too!  I think this look would work for date night, a fun girls’ night out, or any other semi-dressy event!  I’ve linked a couple of great cami options that come in several colors and are perfect for wearing alone or layering.  I am also linking these white jeans – if you are in need of white jeans these are GREAT!  They are high waisted and the material is the perfect thickness so that you can’t see all the lumps and bumps – AND they are under $50!

So tell me, which look is YOUR favorite?? Can’t wait to hear!  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  XOXO
